Welcome to Craft School
Craft School is a free, self-paced, and experiential learning community for aspiring product designers.
If you’ve never studied design or have no experience with digital product design but want to break into the tech industry as a product designer, Craft School will help you become good enough to get your foot in the door and set you on a path of self-learning so you grow from there.
Principles
Craft School is an experiment based on the belief that design can only be acquired by oneself, and not be taught by someone else. This means there are no mentors, lectures, or cohorts — only a self-paced course that a student takes with the help of their peers. Through the tasks, the student learns how to learn product design first, and then learns how to get better at product design through observation, introspection, and peer design reviews.
There’s no evaluation of tasks in Craft School. When a student attempts a task, they strictly rely on peer feedback to iterate and improve on their design and decide when a task is done when they deem fit themselves. A fundamental belief behind Craft School is that developing your design sense is much more important — and rarely addressed in "design bootcamps" — as a someone learns product design; and it can only be developed through rigorous observation and introspection.
How do I get started?
You can get started right away and jump into the first task. The course is completely asynchronous and self-paced, and there's no gatekeeping. Join the community and seek help from others for the task if you need it. Once you’ve made progress on your first task, ask the community members for reviews. Iterate on your task to polish it until you’re satisfied — and you’re done! You can move on to the next task.
New tasks are added every Sunday. You may subscribe to the Newsletter to get notified.
